Dharamsala: No matter what the circumstances, a journalist should stand by truth for one is always known by the credibility one holds and the responsibility bestowed on him or her by an organisation, were the views expressed by Shashi Shekhar, editor-in-chief with Hindustan Media Ventures at a daylong media workshop held at Shahpur today.
Organised by Central University, Dharamshala, on ‘Development Reporting: The Changing Paradigms’, Shekhar said “every society needs some people who can tell the truth and truth should be on the only ingredient of any news, whether it is for print or electronic media.”
He added that whether a journalist works with corporate houses of with autonomous institutions, it is credibility that sustains the media organisation in the field.
The workshop was organized by the School of Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media, Central University of Himachal Pradesh.
Responding to journalism students queries he said that technology had changed the ways of journalism. It is an age of mobile communication and students take to media studies have to think about mobile as media of now and the future.
Presiding over the workshop, Prof. Yoginder S. Verma, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh emphasized the need to develop an interface between the University and the society.
Dr. Rabindranath, Dean, School of Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media, Dr. Roshan Lal Sharma, Dean, School of Humanities & Languages, Dr. O.S.K.S. Sastri, Dean, School of Physical & Material Sciences, Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Dean, School of Business & Management Studies, faculty members of the university, journalists and media educators from across the state were present in the function.
Arvind Sharma is an award winning bi-lingual journalist with more than 20 years of experience.
He has worked with Divya Himachal, Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhasker, Vir Partap, Ajit and PTI.
In 2010, he was conferred the Himachal Kesri journalism award. He reports on the Tibetan Government in Exile, politics, sports, tourism and other topics. He lives in Dharamshala.
