Court seeks records of Himachal CMs Income Tax investigation transfer case

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh High Court earlier in the day today directed the Income Tax department to produce all records pertaining to transfer of cases of investigations into the income tax returns of the Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his family members.

Before listing the matter for the next hearing on November 24, the division bench of Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed these orders on the writ petitions of Virbhadra Singh, his wife Pratibha Singh, son Vikramaditya Singh and daughter Ms. Aparajita Kumari

Besides Virbhadra Singh and his family, one Anand Chauhan (Caretaker of Virbhadra Singh’s orchards) and Chunni Lal Chauhan (Proprietor of M/s Universal Apples) have challenged the orders of the Income Tax Commissioner to transfer their cases to Chandigarh on the ground of conducting coordinated and joint investigation in all cases.

Virbhadra Singh, his family and others have stated before the court that the coordinated and joint investigation of all cases can be done in Shimla also and there was no need to transfer the cases to Chandigarh as this will only result in harassment to them.

During an earlier previous hearing the High Court had dismissed preliminary objections of the Income Tax department against the petitions of Virbhadra Singh and his family members.
