Rajnath speaks to miffed Sidhu

New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) BJP president Rajnath Singh Friday spoke to party MP Navjot Singh Sidhu following reports of his feeling “suffocated” in the system and assured that his grievances will be looked into.

The cricketer-turned-politician, who is party MP from Amritsar, is reportedly unhappy over not having a say in appointments in Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) local unit.

Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur, who is a BJP MLA has said that he would not contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

She told the media that her husband was feeling “suffocated” in the system due to lack of adequate respect and was devoting time to the profession in which he was respected.

Sidhu has been a cricket commentator after his innings in India’s test and one-day squads.

A very articulate MP, Sidhu has been elected thrice from Amritsar. Asked about the possibility of BJP leader Arun Jaitley contesting from Amritsar, Navjot Kaur said they will support whoever the party nominates.

BJP source said Rajnath Singh spoke to Sidhu Friday morning. They said Sidhu is expected to meet Rajnath Singh after the ongoing IPL cricket tournament.

BJP leaders said Sidhu had not spoken to the party leadership about issues concerning him.

He had campaigned for the BJP in the Gujarat assembly polls but had created a controversy with his remarks mocking ambitions of Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) president Keshubhai Patel.

Sidhu, who was secretary during previous party chief Nitin Gadkari’s tenure, did not find place in the BJP’s team of office-bearers announced recently by Rajnath Singh.

The sources said Sidhu may be interested in changing his constituency due to differences with local Akali Dal leadership.
