The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Thiru T.R. Baalu has said that the development of the route from Delhi to Shimla under the National Highway Development Progrmme (NHDP) would integrate Himachal Pradesh with the national network of National Highways of international standards having 6-lane /4-lane configuration. Thiru Baalu was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Chakki Khad Bridge on NH-20 in Himachal Pradesh today.
Speaking on the occasion, Thiru Baalu said that Himachal Pradesh has received a focus of attention of the Central Government in development of National Highways. He said that the upgradation of the National Highways would further add to the prosperity and development of the State.
He said that importance is also being given to the National Highways in Himachal Pradesh which are not covered under NHDP. He said that during the last two years, the Ministry of Shipping Road Transport & Highways has sanctioned 72 works with an aggregate amount of Rs.213 crore on National Highways in Himachal Pradesh. So far, 35 projects on State Roads with a total cost of Rs.89.36 crore have been approved under the Central Road Fund Scheme, the Minister informed. Thiru Baalu said that besides this, under the Inter-State Connectivity Scheme, two projects at a total cost of Rs.10.33 crore have been approved in Himachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Shri Virbhadra Singh, Shri K.H. Muniyappa, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways besides other dignitaries, were present at the foundation stone laying ceremony at Chakki Khad Bridge. The construction of this bridge 30-metre upstream of the existing old arch bridge has been sanctioned for an amount of Rs.20.76 crores.
