Nepal’s Lower Arun 679 MW Project Targeted For Completion In 5 Years – Nand Lal Sharma CMD SJVN

Kathmandu: Employing state-of-the-art hydropower technologies, SJVN the public sector power generation company has drawn up ambitious plans of commissioning 679 MW Lower Arun project in 5 year’s time.

Speaking at a function to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Investment Board of Nepal (IBN) held at Singha Durbar here, Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN said, “we are executing one of IBN’s transformative Public-Private-Partnership project – the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project on Arun River. Execution of the project is progressing ahead of schedule and it is targeted for completion in 2023-24 financial year.”

About the recently allotted Lower Arun Project, Sharma said, “it would be developed as a model project and is targeted to be completed in 5 years time.”

Sharma emphasized upon the need for adopting an Integrated River Basin Development approach to harnessing Hydro Power. This helps in planning the evacuation and transmission of power, development of infrastructure and drawing up a comprehensive environment management plan, he added.

“Construction of Power Projects, results in benefitting every strata of the society, uplifting the socio-economic status of the local populace and overall development of the entire region,” said Sharma.

Earlier, Sh. Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister of Nepal, felicitated Sh. Sharma and appreciated his relentless efforts in the development of Hydro Power in Nepal. Sh. Janardan Sharma, Finance Minister & Vice Chairman, IBN, Ms. Pampha Bhusal, Minister for Energy, Water Resources & Irrigation, Sh. Sushil Bhatta CEO, IBN along with other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

Investment Board Nepal is a high-level government body chaired by the Prime Minister, which functions as a central fast-track government agency established to facilitate economic development in Nepal.
