Dharamshala: The Environment desk (CUDP) of Tibetan Settlement Office in collaboration with a local media group organized an Environment Conservation Rally wherein a public participatory clean up drive, which included 22 participants of the Miss Himachal Beauty Pageant contest, was conducted in and around Mecleod Ganj yesterday.
The program was marked with distribution of gloves, masks, bags. With participation of local Indians, including members of auto union, taxi union and other Tibetan organisations like Indo Tibetan Friendship Association, Tibetan Shop Association and also students from Government Secondary School, Forsyth Ganj, the clean up drive and awareness campaign about waste management at different locations in and around Mcloed Ganj was held.
The local media group which is also a co-partner of 2017 Miss Himachal pageant, the contestants of the beauty contest and their crew also participated in the drive, carrying the theme for clean up drive: “Aaiye Abhyan Ko Jiwan Shaily Banayen, Swachhata Apnayen” Rally on Environment conservation.
The three areas around ‘trekking road till Mountaineering Institute’, Mall Road till Church and in and around MecLeod Ganj were cleared of litter during the drive.
After the clean up drive, the participants including of Divisional Commissioner Kangra , Deputy Commissioner Kangra , Mayor and Deputy Mayor Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, SDM Dharamshala and Deputy Speaker of Tibetan Parliament Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok and others , gathered at the parking area, at the main temple road, to observe a program on environment conservation.
In the program held folk artists sang songs about environment conservation and the 22 finalists of the Miss Himachal contest presented messages about cleanniness awareness. Late in the evening the Mayor and Deputy Speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok spoke about the need for conserving the beauty and the environment of the hill station that is visited by many Indian and foreign tourists regularly.
