SJVN Scholarship 2014 details

Shimla: SJVN, the profit making Central Public Sector Undertaking has invited applications for 250 merit scholarships for students who passed their 10+2 Class in 2016 with merit and will be pursuing a degree course in medical, engineering, arts, commerce, agriculture, law and other disciplines. The Scholarship Amount is Rs 2000/- per month and is given for the full degree course duration, be it a 3, 4 or 5 year bachelors degrees course.

Himachal Consultancy Organization Ltd. (HIMCON), a Shimla based multi-functional and multi-disciplinary organisation, on behalf of SJVN is processing and screening the applications, before a candidate is considered for award of the scholarship.

Objective of the SJVN Merit Scholarship Scheme

It was on the occasion of holding the 25th foundation year of SJVN in 2013 that the profit making Central Public Sector Undertaking announced the ‘SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholar Scheme’ with the objective to inculcate competitive spirit amongst student’s and to nurture academic talent.

Who can apply

The SJVN Merit Scholarship Scheme is part of the corporate social outreach of the organisation and only students who are studying the area  where the Central Public Sector Undertaking is operating can apply for the scholarship.

SJVN Ltd is operating hydropower plants in Himachal Pradesh; a Wind Power Plant in Maharashtra; is developing hydropower plants in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh; and is setting up a Thermal Power Plant at Buxar in Bihar.

The scholarships on offer are open for all students from Himachal Pradesh, and those studying in the districts of Uttrakashi and Chamoli in Uttarakhand; Papumpare district of Aurnachal Pradesh; Buxar district of Bihar; and Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

The applicant should be a Meritorious Students who has secured a minimum of 60% (Sixty Percent) marks in the 10+2 Examination in any discipline from a school under the State Education Board, CBSE or ICSE boards in the 2015-16 academic year.

For students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families the eligibility percentage would be 50% and for Person With Disability (PWD) it would only be Pass Marks.

For the applicants from the eligible districts of Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttrakhand and Aurnachal Pradesh, the first 50% seats would be earmarked for the students studying at schools located in the Project Affected Area (PAA) villages and the remaining 50% seats for the district where the project is located. In case there are vacant seats in one category, they can be filled from the other category.

There will be no domicile restrictions for the students.

All the eligible students can apply online and by submitting attested certificate copies with the application form that can be downloaded from HIMCON website by first filling an online at the link Requisition for Scholarship and then download the application from from the Link Application Format For SJVN Merit Scholarship Scheme that needs to be filled and submitted with relevant documents by post.

However, a student who is a recipient of any other scholarship will not be eligible for a SJVN Scholarship.

SJVN Scholarship Amount:  Rs 2000/- per month for the full degree course

For the year 2016 under the SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scheme there are 250 scholarships on offer for pursuing studies in higher streams after having passed the 10+2 class with merit in the current year.

The scholarship amount handed out is Rs 2000 per month and is given for the entire duration of 3, 4 or 5 year higher education degree course pursued anywhere in the country.

The higher education course taken up the meritorious student could a bachelors’ degree in Engineering, Medical, Arts/ Science/ Commerce/ Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Veterinary/ Business Administration/ Computer Applications/ LLB (5 years course) or other disciplines.

Scholarships are allocated on State Wise; CBSE, ICSE / State Education Board Quota Basis

Once you open the online application form, you will have to fill in the required details and also upload the following scan documents:

1. Coloured passport size photograph 

(Note: Image size should be between 4 KB and 100 KB) [Dimension 3.5 cm wide; 4.5 cm height]. You can ask someone at a nearby cybercafe to do this for you. Its quick and easy.

2. 10+2 Class Attested Board mark sheet (Scanned Copy)

After submitting online application successfully, you can download the 2nd form which you have  to send by post.

The application form has to be downloaded and submitted at the address below. The application needs to accompanied by 2 (two) Passport Size Photographs of the student; attested copies of the Class 12 examination; and BPL or PWD certificate if applicable. Selection Procedure

Application submitted and processed by Himachal Consultancy Organization Ltd. (HIMCON) – the agency engaged by SJVN Foundation, will be screened by a selection committee before short listing of candidates to be considered for award of scholarships.

The criteria that the selection committee will adopt for short listing scholarship applications would be:

Rank obtained by the student in terms of marks/equivalent grade obtained in 10+2 Board Examination. In case of tie in rank, the candidate of higher age would be preferred.

The shortlisted candidates would be called for an interview before the selection committee to present all original academic certificates and testimonials. The candidates who do not turn up for the interview will not be considered for the scholarship.

Mere submission of the application does not guarantee eligibility for the scholarship.

SJVN will have the right to accept or reject the candidature of any candidate at any stage without assigning reasons.

If sufficient applications are not received in a particular board then the vacant seats would be filled by other boards with the approval of Chairman SJVN Foundation.

Where a doubt arises of any of the provisions of this scheme, it would be referred to Chairman, SJVN Foundation, whose decision shall be final and binding. The scholarship to the students will be awarded on some special occasion like SJVN Raising Day, Republic Day, Teachers’ Day or some other special day.
