Mayawati demands president’s rule in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow  (IANS) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati today demanded that president’s rule be imposed in Uttar Pradesh, and c laimed there was a total breakdown of law and order in the state.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, the former chief minister said the state government has failed on all fronts and was being run by mafia and goons.

“In ten months of its rule, the Samajwadi Party (SP) government has flouted all norms and has opened floodgates of graft,” she alleged.

“There are rapes taking place like never before, criminals are having a free run, such a situation is not acceptable,” said Mayawati.

Referring to the communal flare-ups and riots in the state, she demanded that Governor B.L. Joshi take notice of the prevailing situation and recommend imposition of president’s rule.
