Shimla: Referring to the reports that appeared in main stream media, Arun Jaitley questioned Virbhadra Singh’s tenure as the Steel Minister in the UPA led government today in Shimla. He demanded SIT inquiry into the case.
Earlier this month a section of the media had carried news reports regarding seizures made by the IT Department from the office of a Bombay based business group. The seized documents included cash payments made to various officials of the Government and others, wherein a sum of Rs.2.28 crores is shown as paid to one ‘VBS’.
Shri Virbhadra Singh has already denied that he is that ‘VBS’ referred to in the diaries. The media reports indicate that the matter is being investigated by the CBI. Arun Jaitley demanded a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the allegations, since it didn’t “trust the CBI”.
Arun Jaitley also questioned Virbhadra Singh’s income from his apple orchards. Virbhadra Singh’s income tax returns have swollen considerably in the last couple of years, which was questioned by the senior BJP leader.
BJP leader said that it clearly appears that a large amount of cash income has been illegally generated for the benefit of Shri Virbhadra Singh and his family members. He also said that this is not merely a case of corruption but it is a case of forgery and crime. The Bharatiya Janata Party demands that a Special Investigative Team be set up to investigate this monumental fraud, he said.
The senior Congress leader was brought to the state elections to steer the Congress party into the power however; his ‘alleged’ misdeeds are only creating trouble for the party in the state.
