Rural Tourism To Gain With Increased Accommodation In Himachal Homestays – Sanjay Dutta

Manali: Applauding the governments decision to increase number of rooms permitted under the homestay scheme, Sanjay Dutta, chairman of Himachal Homestay Association of Kullu said that it will boost tourism in the rural areas.

He said, the state government’s Home Stay Scheme is strengthening the economy of the villagers. He added that to familiarize yourself with local regulations regarding tourism and hospitality. You may need permits or licenses to operate a home stay.

He said that if you have a passion for hospitality and a good understanding of the local market, opening a home stay can be a rewarding venture. With the rise of platforms like Airbnb and other travel websites, home stays have become increasingly popular among travelers looking for personalized experiences.

Talking to journalists here he said that this scheme had strengthened the economy of the villagers. “With the number of rooms permitted being increased from four to six will benefit village tourism,” he said.

He said that the government’s Home Stay Scheme was running very successfully in Kullu district and more than 1200 home stays were registered in Kullu district. Thestate governments scheme has proved to be a boon for the villagers, he added.

Himachal formulated the Home Stay Policy in 2008 with the intention of providing avenues for self-employment. The success of the scheme has increased the scope of stakeholders for tourism in rural areas, reducing overcrowding in the popular tourist destinations of the state.
