Shimla : Himachal Pradesh will recruit 200 doctors to strengthen medical services in the state, an official said here Wednesday.
These include 125 specialists with a postgraduate degrees, a government spokesperson said . The decision was taken Tuesday evening at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
The cabinet also enhanced the pay of doctors doing postgraduation. Now, first year students will get Rs.25,000 instead of Rs.15,000 per month, second year students Rs.27,000 instead of Rs.16,000 and third year Rs.30,000 instead of Rs.17,000.
Similarly, a senior resident (post postgraduation) in first, second and third year will now be getting Rs.40,000, Rs.42,500 and Rs.45,000 respectively instead of Rs.35,000 they were getting earlier.
Likewise, interns of government medical and dental college will get a monthly scholarship of Rs.8,000 per month instead of Rs.5,000 that they were getting earlier.
Himachal Pradesh has given priority to health by increasing its budget by 25 percent in the next fiscal as compared to the previous year.
The budget for 2012-13 has a provision of outlay of Rs.1,054.27 crore in health.
