Margao: An inspired bowling spell by medium Pacer Ashim Narang (5 for 32) enabled Himachal Pradesh defeat host Goa by 18 runs in a closely contested tie on the penultimate day of the four-day U-22 C K Nayudu cricket tournament match at MCC ground here Goa today.
With this win, Himachal Pradesh earned four points.
Goa, chasing the target of 245 for an outright win, in their second innings made a disastrous start when their top batting line up crumbled infront of pace bowling attack of Himachal Pradesh.
They lost six wickets at the score of 59. Opening batsman Rohan Balekar and Ryan D’Souza played well and added 83 runs in their seventh wicket partnership.
At the score of 142 for 7, Ryan D’Souza was out on 55. After Ryan’s exit, Vidyadhar Kamat joined Belekar and further consolidated their innings adding 71 runs’ partnership for the eighth wicket. Belkar was out on 87 runs studded with eight hits to the fence off 198 balls. Goa were all out at the score of 226 in 79.2 overs.
Earlier today, Himachal Pradesh in their second innings, resuming at the overnight score of 135 for 5, managed to score 186 runs before they were all out, setting a victory target of 245 runs for Goa.
