Election Commission of India has announced the Bye-election for Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency. The seat fell vacant after Himachal CM Prem Kumar Dhumal opted to come back in state politics and brought the BJP back to power in Himachal. Notification would be issued on 28th April, 08, last date for filing nomination would be 5th May, 2008, scrutiny of the same would be undertaken on 6th May, 2008 and last date for withdrawal of candidature would be 8th May, 2008.
As per election schedule announced for rest of the seats across India, polling would be held on 22nd May, 08 and that counting of votes would be held on 25th May, 08.
A total of 1173362 voters would exercise their franchise in the bye-election.
Model code of conduct has been put in place for Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur district and parts of Kangra district, which fall in the Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency.
