Himachal to open one college of par excellence in every district of the state

Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister, today dedicated the additional college building to the students of the Government Degree College, Sanjauli, Shimla, the First ‘Centre of Excellence’ in the State, constructed at a cost of Rs. 64.10 lakhs and said that Rs. 5 crore additional were being spent on adding more complexes to the college.

Chief Minister said that the state government had decided to open atleast one college of par excellence in every district of the state in a phased manner where admission would be on merit basis restricted to the number of seats allotted for each degree. He said that the state had attained the status of expansion and now focus was on consolidation of the created infrastructure. He said that the state had emerged leader in education and was poised to be the ‘Educational Hub’ of the country in coming few years since the state had enacted Private Universities Act and a number of prestigious educational societies were coming forward to set up their centres of par excellence in the state having collaboration with foreign universities.

Virbhadra Singh said that the Sanjauli college was being developed as the best college in the capital and required infrastructure was being created by according top priority. He said that the students of the college would be in a position to avail of best educational facilities within the college campus and top teaching faculty being deployed to carry the work with missionary zeal.

Chief Minister also went around the college campus and directed authorities to restore the heritage building of the college besides constructing additional blocks and hostels with strict quality control in a time bound manner.
