Himachal Assembly Elections (Live): Congress wins, Virbhadra next CM?

Finally, Congress has won the clear mandate. They have clinched 36 seats, 14 more than their 2007 tally. BJP top leadership has accepted the verdict and they are all now set for introspection.

BJP’s tally came down from 41 to 26. BJP accepted that they lost not because of Congress but because of wrong selection of candidates.

However, the big question at this point of time is: “Who will be the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, considering the fact that both Virbhadra Singh, Kaul Singh have won?”

Not to forget Vidya Stoke’s eighth win, which is a record in itself.

14:00  G S Bali of Congress wins Nagrota by 2743 votes. Krishan Lal Thakur of BJP wins Nalagarh by 9308 votes. Independent Arun Kumar gave tough fight to G.S.Bali.

Meanwhile in Gujarat, Modi is set to be the third time CM of the state. However, Kapil Sibal says, “Modi should also analyse because despite all his 3D campaigns he has not moved ahead.”

At the same time, Virbhadra Singh said that he is confident that Congress will oust the BJP government.  “We are going to form the next government,” the former Himachal Pradesh chief minister told the media here.

According to Election Commission officials, the Congress appeared to be inching towards victory in 37 of the 68 constituencies.

Meanwhile in Gujarat, Narendra Modi is set to return to Power. P. Chidambram says, “The Congress is a winner in Gujarat, we have been able to contain BJP and Modi to under 117 seats.”

Leaders Speak

Congress veteran and former chief minister Virbhadra Singh was confident his party would oust the BJP. “We are very confident of forming a government,” he told the media.

BJP Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was initially supremely confident of retaining power but then gave a cautious comment: “We did our best, and let us see who will form the government.”
