Shimla: On an expansion mode Fortis Healthcare has announced setting up of a 100 bedded green filed hospital in Kangra district. The hospital proposed in Kangra would have an inbuilt provision of expanding it to a 200 bedded hospital, a Fortis spokesman stated.
Besides this hospital, the healthcare company also intends to set up a 200 bedded hospital in Ludhiana.
These hospitals are being set up under the “asset light model†(land and building will be taken on lease) and would lead to improved capital efficiency at Fortis. Expansions into newer geographies are in line with the company’s plan to improve accessibility to affordable quality healthcare in vibrant markets which are healthcare deficient, the company spokesman said.
The Fortis Hospital at Kangra was being started with a local associate would be the healthcare companys first foray into Himachal Pradesh. The hospital would provide full-fledged medical facility offering specialized services including a 24 hour Emergency.
The Kangra hospital is targeted to become operation in the current year. Speaking on the occasion, GS Bali, the local associate at Kangra said “I am very happy that Fortis has decided to set up a super specialty Hospital in Kangra at our request. The Hospital would provide much needed respite to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Fortis has developed a cost effective standardized model to bring to smaller cities and this will be implemented in both the hospitals.
Incorporated in 1996, Fortis Healthcare Limited opened its first hospital in Mohali in 2001. Recently the company acquired 10 Wockhardt Hospitals and now has a presence in 16 cities across 11 states including the metros of Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkatta.
Earlier acquisitions include 5 Escorts Hospitals in 2005, and recently took over operation and management of SL Raheja Hospital in Mumbai. Fortis is now a network of 46 hospitals with the capacity to increase inpatient beds to 6700 beds.
