London, June 4 (IANS) British retail sales increased by 3.4 percent in May thanks to the promotion strategy the retailers took, said a research report jointly released by British Retail Consortium (BRC) and the accounting firm KPMG Tuesday.
Total retail sales in Britain were up 3.4 percent in May as compared with the same period of last year, with the sales value increased by 1.8 percent year on year, reported Xinhua.
The report said furniture and flooring was the best-performing category in the retail sector for the first time since January 2011, while online sales maintained the upward momentum to rise 11 percent in May compared with May last year, when they had risen by 12.4 percent.
