Shimla: J.S.Rana, Deputy Commissioner Shimla said that Kufri, Shimla, would be developed as Model Panchayat and all efforts would be done for its beautification and cleanliness.
He added that four to five panchayats would be developed as Model Panchayats in the District so that others could follow the pattern. He said that it was a welcome step that Kufri Panchayat People, Hoteliers and Pony owners all were ready to restore the old glory of Kufri and a project has been prepared with the help of Neitherland expert Joseph A.C.M. Van Odenhoven.
Appreciating the contribution of Pony owners to stop the pony business in the area and also not allowing the oursiders to adopt this business in order to prevent environment and pollution, he said that they can take benefit of State Government’s Home-Stay Scheme. Besides they could take up medicinal- herbal plantation and vermiculture for which Department of Environment, Science & Technology provides technical and financial assistance.

Being a local resident what i have felt since past that the panchayat is never pro-active to develop Kufri  as tourist hub. There is not even a single initiative since long which may attarct the tourists. Local administration seeks local participation but i see there no such awareness among the people.It would be better to develop some tourist attractions with PPP model so that atleast something may come up.Â
