Ankeet Chavan breaks down, accepts spot-fixing charge

New Delhi, May 17 (IANS) Rajasthan Royals cricketer Ankeet Chavan was the first to break down under interrogation by Delhi Police and has accepted his role in the spot-fixing scandal that rocked the Indian Premier League (IPL) Thursday.

“One of the cricketers, Ankeet Chavan, has accepted that he made a mistake,” a Delhi police official told IANS.

Chavan’s other two Rajasthan Royals teammates Sreesanth and Ajit Chandila, however, have not yet accepted the charges. The three were sent in five-day police custody Thursday after they were brought to Delhi from Mumbai, where they were arrested.

The three cricketers were questioned Friday by a high ranking official of the Delhi Police special cell.

“More teams have been sent to other states, we will be conducting more raids to catch hold of more bookies,” the official added.

Besides the three cricketers, Delhi Police have also arrested 11 bookies for alleged spot-fixing.
