Gurgaon, May 6 (IANS) A 19-year-old youth, who allegedly murdered a vendor April 30 following a dispute over a bottle of water, was arrested here, police said Monday.
Umesh Chauhan was arrested for killing Nirmal Soni, 34, on Khandsa Road near Sabzi Mandi (wholesale vegetable market). Chauhan hails from Aligarh of Uttar Pradesh and was living here in Saraswati Enclave.
Soni used to sell snacks and water near the market.
“Chaujan demanded a bottle of water April 30 evening (from Soni), saying he does not have money for it. On being denied, he stabbed Soni more than five times. Soni died on the spot,” Rajender Singh, an official told IANS.
Chauhan was arrested by police on the basis of information provided by his accomplice Jitender.
“We have taken Umesh Chauhan on remand for two days,” Singh added.
