Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab hanged at Pune’s Yerawada Jail

Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving Pakistani terrorist of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was hanged at Pune’s Yerwada Jail at 7:30 am today, Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil confirmed in a media interaction.

RR Patil informed the media that Kasab‘s mercy plea had been rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee on November 8 and that Kasab being the lone militant to have survived the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was hanged till death.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who led the 26/11 terror attacks case said: “Yes, Kasab has been hanged this morning at 7.30 a.m. in Yerawada Central Jail.”

It may have costed India some Rs35 crore to serve Kasab the fate that he deserved, but every penny of it now seems worth it as Kasab’s end comes just five days before the fourth anniversary of the brutal terror attacks. The Nov 26-29, 2008 terror siege had claimed about 166 lives and injured over 300 people.

“The punishment to Kasab is a true tribute to the victims and martyrs of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks,” Patil said.

Sources privy to the matter disclosed that after the President’s rejection of his plea on Nov 8, Kasab was moved from Mumbai’s Arthur Jail to Yerawada Central Jail in Pune on the night of November 19.

Kasab’s death has been confirmed by the doctors in the jail, but there is still no word on the location of his burial.
