Kurukshetra: Tejasvi Arora, a third-year engineering student of NIT Kurukshetra, died after he drowned in a canal near Jyotisar on the Kurukshetra-Pehowa road on Tuesday morning. Tejasvi and his friends had gone to the canal, nearly 5 km from the NIT campus, on Monday evening.
Four of them entered the canal waters but the water flow was rapid and they lost control. Three of them were rescued by the irrigation department employees posted near the spot. Tejasvi, however, could not be rescued and he drowned.
A group of students, who reached the hospital upon hearing the news, blamed the college administration for Tejasvi’s death.
The whole third year is reported to be on a strike and they are asking for resignation of Institute’s Director. The students are taking help of Facebook and Social Media and they have even started a Facebook page, which bluntly calls Director of the Institute as murderer of Tejasvi Arora.
On condition of anonymity, a student let Hill Post know that, “Tejasvi had fallen in the Jyotisar canal at around 5 and Institute officials were informed about the situation at 6 but no immediate action was taken. Only one diver was called for rescue action and even he refused to dive in the canal citing darkness as a reason. The body, when taken out of the canal at 10 in the morning, was sent for check up by the students in an auto as no ambulance was called by the authorities involved. The doctors revealed that Tejasvi would have died at around 3 in the morning and could have been saved had immediate action been taken on the part of authorities.”
A group of agitated students ransacked the Director Office and damaged institute’s property after this news spread.
Today, 800 students of third year were suspended by the college authorities and they were immediately asked to vacate their hostels.
Institute registrar, GR Samantray reportedly said that the suspension of students was the last option they had because students were adamant and demanding resignation of the Director, which he said, was an unjust and illogical demand.
Meanwhile, institute administration block was crowded with students of third year, sitting on the floor, shouting slogans, and demanding Director’s resignation. They even took out a candle march in the college campus.
Suspension notice was posted in the hostels early morning. Around 11 A.M. students were asked to leave hostels and hostels were locked. In the evening, it was announced that Director’s mother had expired. Director was expected to address the students at 6:30 pm but he did not come.
Acting Director, V.K. Arora talked with the students for two hours in the Guest House.
After suspension orders, it is reported that students from other colleges in Kurukshetra are also joining hands with NIT students and they are gathering in the college campus to support the protest.

director’s resignation is must and some punishment
Had the Director given the instruction to those students to take a dip in the canal?
This is illogical demand to ask for resignation.
We should accept that every one tries to do his best in such situations. As news states, even the diver refused citing darkness and fearing for his life. So, what else could the director would have done?
Why not blame his other friends (who were saved) and didn’t tried jumping again to get their friend out?
Be practical, if you are borne to take risk by taking a dip in flooding canal, don’t expect a life guard at your service at the time of need. They were not in a university swimming pool that they can make management liable for this loss.
In the end, my sympathy goes with the family as they have lost the most in a very tragic way.
Mr BALKAR lets be practical. Do you on the 2nd day of strike, every doctor of kurukshetra was attending his mother. when he can gather every doctor for his mother ,can’t he arrange a single ambulance for his dead body, cant he ask doctors to do his postmortem immediately. His body lied in the hospital for 1hr and nobody responded.
Mr balkar this is not the first time we are witnessing his clear negligence, in fact this is the 3rd time. We had a strike at late 10PM outside director’s house to ask him to do something and he didn’t even come out. Initial reports says he died around 7hrs back that means around 2AM. Had director forced the authorities to do something, he could have been saved.
If you dont know anything don’t comment in such delicate matters.
agr tera ldka hota balkar to tu tb yehi kehta..zabn sambhl k bt kr…tu abhi bachon ko jnata nhi hai..khin aisa na ho..uske sath 1 lash teri bi uthani pd jye..
Mr Balkar,
Hope this reaches you in good health. Sir your illogical makes no sense here. If there is an incident why was the ambulance not there? Could it be that he was so busy?
You start thinking logically and put yourself in the boy’s place.
If you want anything else Mr. Balkar please revert and we can actually meet up sometime and I will make it clear to you.
Hi All (specially NIT for you),
I have reacted to this news article and don’t know ground facts. But, those who are advising me to think myself in that position should also first put themselves in the position of whatever role they like, say Director and then think as what action could have avoided this tragedy (and the best person/role who could be effective….think in order to avoid such instances in future).
*keep this in mind that as per news article the trained diver(most effective resource available as per my thinking….refused citing darkness and fear of his own life, something but natural which we should respect).
I can be more practical (which may sound harsh…but with all my sympathy just want to discuss the point here) if I keep on discussing this with arguments [“can’t he arrange a single ambulance for his dead body, cant he ask doctors to do his postmortem immediately. His body lied in the hospital for 1hr and nobody responded.” ] … like ….as per my knowledge you can’t perform postmortem without approval from family members and also there can be lapse in dealing with the case from Director/Doctor’s side.
So, some people may be at fault and other negligent and few of them even don’t knowing there powers/roles in such situations. The solution is not to blame one person but to set up a committee/ group/association to deal with and promptly respond in such situations, who should be first contacted (This group of people should have all power and resources at their disposal in such situations and their instructions should be followed).
I am also against the hasty decision from the management to suspend the students to make the situation worse and two sides standing against each other.
I believe NIT and such institutes are places where our country’s bright minds get trained to take up the country’s growth when they come out to work in societies/companies.
These minds should not be driven by mob mentality and should focus there energies in the right direction to work for the progress of the country/society.
We already have a lot of such people (following mob mentality) in our country which get the media attention through news channels now and then.
Dear Students don’t loose hope in any situation and always work for what you think is right (don’t be a follower for the sake that you don’t know what to do!).
At the end again, I am deeply sorry if my comments have hurt some people as those were not intentional as I realize the gravity of this tragedy for the family members and friends. Those comments were just on the news article and out of frustration that why even learned people/bright minds take on this path of destruction rather than helping in building something better and safe for tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Balkar

Jai Hind!
I totally agree with Balkar on this opinion , Even professional diver refused to dive in so how could director had a chance to save the guy … I am really sorry for what happened but situation could not have been turned up by Director …. If young lads wants to risk there life then why officials to blame for it .
Mr. Balkar, don’t. try to be that much logical. Agar wo tumhara ladka hota, to tu kya itna dimag lagata.
Mr. Balkar, don’t. try to be that much logical. Agar wo tumhara ladka hota, to tu kya itna dimag lagata………
m from nit silchar…1 year back we were facing the same problem. our director was also busy in doing some other shits neglecting what the grave matters were happening at our colg. we also did protest in a very large scale and they too threatened us to suspend from the colg…but eventually we succeeded in changing the director and now our colg. is on great progress.
so my suggestion to you guys is that you continue you strike until he resigns. don’t be afraid on anything no body can suspend college students in such a mass.
thought it is the another thing that this guy endangered his life by himself but management had to do smthing at such critical moment. atleast they could save a life and an engineer for our nation.
this incident is the lession to the students that you are staying for studies not to do such things which creates danger to your life.your wrong actions could creates sorrows to your parents.i am very sad for tejawasi arora. may god give strength to his family to overcome this very sad moments.
how can a director be so careless? when so many students were crying for help in front of his residence at 10 Pm , how can u just ignore the event? he didn’t even show up.
His duty is to serve students.
He clearly dont deserve to be a director.
i agree wth d students…i’m a student of Nit-D, nd today we went on a long candle march, demandng d resignation of d Director…he shud b punishd severely….
A part which states that the authorities even when informed thoroughly didnt act well at the time is right. Ambulance should have been arranged, the institute should have searched for a proper rescue team asap. But on the other hand accidents happening out of the campus is not exactly the responsibility of the institute. All they can do about it is implement very strict rules for students. Mistakes has been made and the loss is unbearable. However the order of suspension was absolutely pathetic and an act of sudden panic. Keep this up for a little more, you will succeed. I support our NIT fraternity. Authorities should accept their mistakes and act responsibly. Best of luck!!!!!!
I am a student from NIT-A….we are with you guys…
even we were suspended ( entire 2nd year, more than 750 students) few days back….for protesting against the corruption and various problems in our college…had to leave our hostel rooms…without any valid reason….whenever we speak for our rights …authority tries to suppress us..what happened in NIT-K is sad….may u all get justice…R.I.P Tejasvi……….
Dear All,
First of all, my condolence for Tejaswi Arora. But, I feel the demand for resignation of director is illogical. It is the co- students and by passer who should have taken action in helping the boy. What can a director do in a bizare situation like this? Let us be reasonable in our demands. This has happened outside the college premises and director can not be made responsible for this. I am an Ex- NITK 2K batch and I feel, students should leave this agitation and concentrate more on their career.
director must b punished……he is d epitome of cruelity…..keep it up guys…
Ofcourse… the director should be suspended not students .. we agree with you people .. keep it up .
my condolence for Tejaswi Arora…
Director is responsible for this situation…as per the reports “Tejaswi could have been saved”
As a director you are the responsible for all the activities for the college, and of-course the the decision maker for all the events. As the higher authority director is responsible for all the students.and one right decision could have save Tejaswi.
**** balkar.director ke tera fufa lagge hai.apne time thik te kadd le.
May his soul rest in peace. Institute is responsible for your activities in campus. If you go out get into a fight with someone and get yourself killed outside campus What can institute do in it ? Suppose you have a bike and while you are outside campus you met with an accident and got killed . What can director do in it ? Although I agree that authorities did not respond to the incident or they took it lightly but after 5 you have to call police for rescue not director . What’s wrong in attending to your mother when she is counting her last breath ? What would have happened if director had reached their at night, he is not a diver . Then you will say police did not respond so our friend got killed . You can organize such a big rally and could not arrange divers in the evening I would say you are responsible for his death and if you keep accusing others for your own mistakes you will get more people killed as nobody will bother to say that it’s dangerous to take bath in canals in evening . Learning from the incident should be that we should not go to swim in canals as it could be fatal but nobody will remember this incident for this they will remember this as you know last year we organized such a big strike the whole administration was frightened by us . What message you are sending to media that NIT K is a place where students agitate like any other local university ? The director may resign and rejoin after a week will this bring Tejaswi back ? Who are you to provide justice ? I believe India has a judiciary system .
Director is not at all responsible the local govt hospital authorities told students that can not survive in water more than 15-20 minutes also director of nit kurukshetra was fully devoted towards students but some teachers and professors are agitating students so that our director should resign ….
some students who were detained in last sem exams for less than 75% students are also involved….
Also our director is a simple prof. and he didnt stated but we were told by dc and distt admin. kurukshetra that the director asked them to send divers and go for military operation but they could not proceed….. aur jaha tak ambulance ka sawaal hai he instuscted acting director v.k.arora but this person didnt take any action because he also wants the director to resign…..becoz than he will also be in charge of director becoz of being senior professor….also we came to know that our director could’nt meet her dieing mother bcoz of this protest she also died day before yesterday we the students are very sorry for that we were agitated by prof.d.k. soni- hod civil….. also parents of tejaswi were saying that “is may dir kya karega?” so please stop doing this dirty protest……some adoh faculty members are also involved…. this director has improved the institution a lot… also one more thing prof bhatia and prof mahesh kumar gupta nad prof. dixit garg is also agitating the media and students

Thanks to those who were able to see my view point and have supported. To others ……Sorry, If I have mus-communicated something as my intention is pious.
its nt proper to say dat it was all tejaswi’s fault…..
all of we students r young nd we nid to enjoy our life a bit wid studies….
da director is certainly at fault bcause he dint take proper action nd immediate action.
if he would ve taken immediate action den a life could ve been saved nd a mother would nt be crying fr her young”s son’s uncertain death…ok….
nd when our parents leave us outside to study in reputed colleges to study dey ve trust in da institution nd da ppl associated wid it dat dey will take care of us……bt nwdays colleges r so moneyholic dat all dey care abt is money!!!!!
Nd mr balkar
wat is ur problem man???
if u ve so much to say go nd return dat mother her son……a person who knew swimming nd struggled to live fr 10 hrs inside water should ve been rescued ..ok….so keep ur comments to urself!!!!
nd if it would ve been any of ur closed ones i would ve seen hw much u would ve remained silent nd taken da side of da administration…
Everyday atleast 1 deadbody is found in that canal. So I don’t know who advised them to go there.
