Spurious liquor kills 23 in Bengal

Kolkata : At least 23 people died and over a 100 people fell ill today after they consumed spurious liquor in a West Bengal village of Diamond Harbour region , officials said.

Four persons have been arrested for supplying spurious liquor at Sangrampur village in Magraha -1 block of the South 24-Parganas district. Magrahat is 52 km from state capital Kolkata.

“Twenty-three people have died so far,” District Magistrate N.S. Nigam said by phone.

The mishap occurred after the villagers drank country liquor yesterday night at a den near Sangrampur railway station.

They began vomiting , and had loose motions and stomach pain in the early hours today .
