Shimla : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) announced that it was contesting on 7 seats in the ensuing Himachal assembly elections, as nominations for the 65 seats of the second phase of elections to be held on 19th December, opened up today.
Rakesh Singha, CPI(M) state general secretary in the presence of CPI(M) politburo member Sita Ram Yechury announced the names of the seven candidates. The party decided to field Sanjay Chauhan from Shimla, Kapoor Singh Supahya from Dharamshala, Ramesh Chand from Anni, Satpal Singh from Sulah, Jagdish Thakur from Chachiot, Ram Krishan Sharma from Arki and Narayan Singh Chauhan form Banjar.
Speaking on the occasion Yechury said that the party would fight the elections to wrest the march of communal forces in the country as well as was opposed to the polices of the state congress government who had taken anti people decisions over the last five years.
Other than the 7 seven seats where CPI (M) was contesting the party would support secular forces. Should there be an hung assembly in the state elections and if CPI(M) had a stake in government formation, the party would support a secular government, said Yechury.
He said that no one from BSP had approached the party for joining hands in the state but the party was not averse to it. “However, BSP has not hesitated to join hands with communal forces, which it did in Uttar Pradesh,†he said.
“Support for formation of any secular government would be on the basis of a common minimum program, for even secular governments have to be checked in order to address common man, farmer and worker related concerns,†said Yechury.
