Himachal Chief Minister while delivering a lecture on occasion of ‘Van Mahostav” at Nohra Dhar in Renuka area of Sirmour district of Himachal said that all govt. Senior secondary schools would have science as compulsory subject.
He urged the people to make “Van Mahotsav”, a mass movement and asked them to carry out plantation on their private land by associating students with the campaign.
State forest department launched their plantation campaign on the occasion of 58th “Van Mahotsav”.
Singh emphasized the need for plantation suiting local environment and added that multi-utility saplings should be planted which could be of use to people besides protecting the ecology of the area.
He said that Jatropha was one of such species which was capable to produce bio-diesel and needed to be planted extensively.
Forest Minister on this occasion said that besides 20,000 hectares of land identified for plantation, 10,000 hectares plantation was being carried out in hydro power projects under CAT Plan.
He said that Mid Himalayan Project was bound to protect the ecology of the State for which Rs. 365 crore were likely to be spent in 10 districts. He said that Rs. 160 crore under Japanese financial assistance were being spent for treatment of Swan River in district Una.
