Shimla: Led by Chief Justice Joseph Kurian, all judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court today made public their assets and liabilities by posting all details including that of their spouses and immediate dependents on the courts website.
The decision to declare assets was taken unanimously in August, 2009 with acting chief justice RB Mishra presiding over the meeting.
“Assets and liabilities of all 11 Judges has been posted on the official court website (http://hphighcourt.nic.in/assetshphc.html) for scrutiny. This would be updated in every financial year,†said a court spokesman.
The other judges whose assets and liabilities including that of their spouses and dependents put up on the site are Justice RB Mishra, Justice Surjit Singh, Justice VK Ahuja, Justice Deepak Gupta, Justice DD Sud, Justice SS Thakur, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice Rajiv Sharma, Justice Kuldip Singh and Justice VK Sharma
Soon after assuming office in February, the new chief justice disclosed that he was in favor of making their assets public.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court joins a list of growing number of courts, which include the Supreme Court, high courts of Kerala, Karnataka, Delhi and Punjab and Haryana that have disclosed the assets and liabilities of the serving judges.

The declaration of assets and liabilities by Hon Highcourt Judges is most welcome step. This could be further strengthened with `current income’ column so that people would know what is current earning of the Hon Judge through Salaries and perks and other benefits.
