Shimla: Its time for Panchkarna in Himachal. After a long passage of time, this ayurvedic therapy in practice in Shimla, Paprola and Bilaspur is about to expand to all major cities of Himachal.
Although, in capital city, Shimla, therapy is available for three months only from May ’07. Panchkarma consists of two words Panch and Karma. Here Pancha means five and Karma stands for methods of treatment. It implies Panchkarma is a five fold therapy consisting of specialised bio-purificatory measures namely Vamana, Virechana, Anuvasana vasti, Niruhana vasti and Nasya Karam.
According to Ayurveda, the root cause of any disease produced in the body is the imbalance of tridoshas viz Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Panchkarma is a type of Shodhan chikitsa where unlike Shaman chikitsa, toxins are expelled out of the body and all the microcirculatory channels of the body get purified. This is a therapy based on three channels Purva Karmas, Pradhana Karmas and then Paschaat Karmas. Purva Karmas are the body preparatory procedures done before the actual process.
Earlier in Himachal, Govt. Ayurvedic College Paprola (Kangra) started this process. Now Regional Hospital Chotta Shimla and Bilaspur also introduced Panchkarma for tourists and general public. This is completaly new face of health tourism, as the tourists got massage and Panchkarma therapy here.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar, OSD Ayurveda, said that in Shimla the Panchkarma Therapy remains in practice for three months (May to July ) due to cold temperature. Talking with My Himachal, he claimed that when the building of Regional Hospital Chotta Shimla got central heated, there should be Panchkarma whole of the year here in shimla.
