Himachal Governor presided over the Convocation of Dr. Y.S. Parmar University

V.S. Kokje, Himachal Governor presided over the Sixth Convocation of Dr. Y.S. Parmar, Horticulture and Forestry University at Nauni in Solan District today.

He conferred Degrees to 305 B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D and MBA Agribusiness, 48 Certificates of Honour and 11 Gold Medals to the meritorious students of the University.

In his convocation address, Dr. Mangala Rai, Director General, Indian Council of Agriculture Research, New Delhi said that Himachal Pradesh has done well to harness the opportunities for growing a wide range of horticultural and forestry crops in diverse agro-climatic niches which contribute about 18 percent to the Gross State Domestic Produce.

He said that the State progressed in the field of Horticulture for economic and ecological stability and hoped that Himachal Pradesh which is known as “Apple State of India” would soon become the ‘Horticulture State’ of the country.

He stressed upon the need to utilize the nature’s bounty for growing off-season vegetables, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants and seeds of temperate vegetables. He assured all liberal help on behalf of ICAR for funding the project proposals in this regard.

Dr. Jagmohan Singh, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Y.S. Parmar Horticulture and Forestry University welcomed the Governor and detailed out the activities of the University.
