TWO BEAR CUBS ABANDONED BY THEIR MOTHER BEING BROUGHT UP BY FARMERS OF RAJGARH AREA OF HIMACHAL

As per information received here two abandoned Bear cubs were being brought up by two farmers of village Bathau Dhar under Rajgarh Sub Division for the past four days.

Giving this information Mr. Yagya Dutt Sharma, Secretary, Vidya Niketan, an NGO involved in education and awareness work told this correspondent that on Tuesday last week two farmers of Bathau Dhar village, Rajender Singh and Satya Pal had gone to collect fodder

In the nearby forest where they spotted two Bear Cubs playing hill slopes. They returned home without collecting fodder, assuming that mother of cubs may attack them at any time.

He said that villagers were traditionally trained to make distance from the Bear cubs as their mother attacks any persons approaching the Cubs. Next day when they again went to collect fodder they again found sitting both cubs at the same place and were looking weak. Again both farmers returned home fearing bear attack. On the third day they found both cubs laying on the stem of a tree, lazy, weak and in bad condition, they decided to take risk and took them to their village. After drinking water they happily took milk and Maze Atta. For the past four days they had become attraction for hundreds of villagers. People were watching their activities with great interest.

He said that he had approached forest department to take custody of these cubs. When contacted, Divisional Forest Officer Rajgarh Mr. Swaran Singh praised the villagers for saving lives of cubs by taking great risk of life and NGO for taking step to inform department. He said that he had dispatched his staff members to bring the Cubs in the departmental custody.
