NAHAN APRIL 21:
Two persons were killed and 46 injured when a private Bus [HP-17-4001] on way to Paonta Sahib from Mehruwala-Bhagani this morning over turned on a turn near Bangran bridge, about 60 K.M. from here under Paonta Sub Division..
As per Police sources one Dhanbir Singh [28] resident of village Danda Paggar died on the spot while another Anil Kumar [35] resident of village Puruwala under Paonta Tehsil succumbed to his injuries on way to Nahan District hospital. He was referred from Paonta Hospital in a serious condition to Nahan Hospital but was declared by the doctors of Nahan Hospital as ‘brought dead’.
This morning when ill fated Bus arrived on Bhagani Bridge driver of the Bus failed to negotiate the curve properly due to over speed and over load reportedly and bus over turned on the road. Around 46 passengers sitting on the roof of the Bus were thrown with a big force to a wall near main road and received mainly head injuries and multiple fractures. Passengers sitting inside the bus however received lesser injuries as per eyewitnesses.
Local residents of Bangran village rushed to the rescue of Bus passengers and informed Paonta Police and Paonta Civil Hospital authorities. They rushed all injured passengers to the Hospital. After first aid in the Paonta Civil Hospital 24 seriously injured persons were referred to district Hospital Nahan but Anil kumar succumbed to his injuries on the way and relatives of 8 more patients preferred to take their patients to some other private Hospitals in Uttrakhand, Yamuna Nagar and PGI Chandigarh. Police was trying to verify the conditions of these patients who shifted to hospitals out side the state.
As per police sources Bus was over speeded and over loaded carrying around 85 passengers. Mr. Narvir Rathour, SHO Paonta told myHimachal that in this connection a case under section 279, 337 and 304A of IPC has been registered and investigation started. He said that driver of the Bus Joginder Singh was absconding and police was making efforts to nab him. He said that total 46 persons were under treatment in Paonta, Nahan and other Hospitals at present, some of them were serious.
In the mean time Dr D. R. Galfat, Medical Officer Incharge in Nahan Hospital said that out of 15 patients admitted in Nahan Hospital conditions of three persons was serious and Hospital was making every effort to give best treatment to them.
Eye witnesses said that due to marriages in the area some buses plying on the rutes of Transgiri area of Paonta Sub Division were engaged in the marriages and due to shortage of buses in this area Busses were generally comming over loaded towards Paonta, today.
Most of injured persons belonged to Bhagani, Danda Paggar, Rajpur and Puruwala Panchyats which includes the names of Anoop, Jagat, Pradeep, Sandeep, Anil, Mam Chand, Talu Ram, Satya Nand, Shanti, Pawan, Islam, Kamlesh, Hirda Ram, Roshan Lal, Sagal Ali, Mukesh, Ram Lal, Parveen, Rukhsana, Guman Singh, Soma Ram,Tenjin, Jag Pal, Prithivi Singh, Om Prakash, Naresh, Kripal, Neelu, Mukesh, Tapender, Sajjan Singh, Karan, Pradeep, Chattar Singh, Mahinder Singh, Nirmal Singh, Suiman Lata, Mukesh, Asha, Manish, Suleman, Rajni, Radha, Mam Chand, Dhan Bhadur alnd Guman Singh.
