Local and Urban Bodies needed to generate sources of their income to carry municipal functioning more effectively in association with the local people and the State Government would consider alleviation of Nagar Panchayat, Nagrota Bagwan to Municipal Council after taking all aspects into consideration.
This was stated by Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister while addressing the gathering of Nagrota Bagwan where he was given a civic reception by the local Nagar Panchayat last evening.
Chief Minister said that it was the duty of every local and urban body to deliver best municipal services to its residents, maintain cleanliness, power and water supply regularly. He said that residents of the area would not mind paying to the bodies for the services being delivered to them. He said that the State Government had empowered the municipal bodies and gram panchayats with authority to levy local taxes to generate sources of income for them. He said that house tax could one of the sources of income which needed to be charged from the residents. He said that State had highly educated and literate persons who do understand their duties towards the local bodies.
Virbhadra Singh said that the State Government was committed to crate best vocational education infrastructure in participation with private parties. He said that prominent education societies were showing keen interest to open centres of par excellence learning in all disciplines in the State so that world class education in all disciplines was available to the people nearer to their homes. He said that his Government had passed private universities Act to permit setting up of private universities in emerging technologies in the State. He said that the State was poised to emerge the ‘knowledge state’ of the country in coming few years.
