Shimla: The Mandi medical college Sangarsh Samithi on Tuesday protested before the Vidhan Sahba asking the BJP government to desist from handing over any public asset to the private sector.
Addressing a small but persistent gathering Kushal Bhardwaj, CPI(M) state secretary said that the party supported demand of the Sangrash Samithi saying that the BJP government was conspiring to hand over government hospitals to the private sector.
He said that the government was slowly withdrawing for the education and health sectors.
He asked the government to withdraw a notification that proposed to hand over government hospitals, including the district hospital at Mandi for opening of a Greenfield medical colleges and hospitals.
The Samithi demanded that the government withdraw the proposal of opening a private medical and restore the previous governments announcement to open a government medical college instead in Mandi.
The Samithi has been holding a chain hunger strike in Mandi town for the past 120 days and today’s protest was to highlight the issue before the lawmakers during the ongoing budget session.

Do we want quality health care services? Or do we need cheap services which are good in quantity and pathetic in quality. The Sangharsh samiti must answer this question before continuing their agitation. Instead of private participation, they should ensure that the cost of health care must remain affordable to all sections of society. It doesn’t matter who runs the hospital. More important is the cleanliness and quality of the services provided by the a particular hospital.
