Dharamshala: Former cabinet minister and BJP MP from Kangra Shanta Kumar stated here today that the Central Government had given the green signal for laying of a broad-gauge rail line from Pathankot to Leh as a strategic defence link.
Speaking to the media here the senior leader said, “this new rail link would touch Dharamshala and the adjoining army areas, the survey for which has already begun.”
“The century old Pathankot – JoginderNagar narrow-gauge rail shall not be done away with or damaged,” he added.
Shanta Kumar said, “This new rail link would be constructed by the Indian Army in accordance to their requirements, which will also be used for civilian purposes.”
He termed it the ambitious project a necessity for India as China had already created a big rail- road network around our boarders.
“It is only the Modi government, which has shown deep concern about creating a strong defence infrastructure for the protection of the country and its borders,” said Kumar.
