Consumption Of Spurious Hooch Leaves 7 Dead

Mandi: Consumption of contraband spurious liquor has led to the death of 7 persons and 4 are in a critical state. The incident was reported from Salapar area under of Sunder Nagar sub-division of the district, late on Tuesday night.

District police superintended Shalini Agnihotri gave out the information that some people in different groups at different places in the Salaper area consumed spurious alcohol and late in the night showed similar symptoms of losing consciousness and continuous vomiting.

On shifting the victims to a hospital, one person died on the way and 6 others have lost their lives during treatment in the hospital.

After registering a case, the police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) and some raids have been conducted. The SIT is headed by Deputy Inspector General Madhusudhan and SP Kangra – Kushal Chand, SP CID Shimla and SP Mandi have been inducted as members of the investigation team.

The police superintended disclosed that 56 boxes of country-made liquor and 1 box of branded liquor have been seized. “A forensic lab team has also collected samples from the site of the incidence,” said Shalini Agnihotri.

The investigation team has arrested 4 people, who are accused of being involved in supplying of the spurious liquor. The accused are Sohan Lal, a resident of Chhajwar village, Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Saroh village, Jagdish Chand  and Accahar Singh, both of whom are residents of Sudahan village.
