Mandi: Indian Institute of Technology Mandi students have won three awards under ‘Outstanding Student Branch Chapter Chair’, ‘Continued Outstanding Performance Student Branch Chapter’ and ‘Web Contest’ categories in the Chapter and Membership Development (CMD) contest of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) Industry Application Society, U.S.
Mr. Adil Usman, PhD Scholar and Student Chapter Chair 2018; Mr. Rajesh Pindoriya, PhD Scholar and Student Chapter Chair 2019; and Ms. Jhalak Chaudhary, 2nd Year B.Tech, Computer Science Engineering; and Mr. Utkarsh Jain, 2nd year B.Tech, Computer Science Engineering, IIT Mandi, will receive the awards during the IEEE IAS Annual Meet 2019, to be held in Baltimore, U.S., from 29th September 2019 to 3rd October 2019.
In June 2016, IEEE Industrial Application Society (IAS) Student Chapter IIT Mandi was formed with Dr. Bharat Singh Rajpurohit, Associate Professor, School of Computing and Electrical Engineering, IIT Mandi, as the Branch Counsellor and Dr. Ankush Bag, Assistant Professor, School of Computing and Electrical Engineering, IIT Mandi, and Dr. Hitesh Shrimali, Assistant Professor, School of Computing and Electrical Engineering, IIT Mandi, as Advisors. Through this more than 100 Workshops, Seminars, Technical Talks, IEEE Awareness and Outreach has been conducted till now.
Expressing his happiness towards the young achievers, Dr. Bharat Singh Rajpurohit, Branch Counsellor, IEEE IAS Student Chapter, and Associate Professor, School of Computing and Electrical Engineering, IIT Mandi, said,“We are happy to see that student’s volunteer efforts lead to an international recognition, especially at undergraduate level. Receiving an award at well renowned conference with outstanding academicians & industry experts in US may open another avenue for recipient’s career.”
Based on the evaluation of such activities the IEEE IAS Student Chapter IIT Mandi has won 3 outstanding awards:
Outstanding Student Branch Chapter Chair
Mr. Adil Usman, PhD Scholar and Student Chapter Chair IIT Mandi, 2018, has won this award, which is given to only one individual across the globe, for his extraordinary and exceptional contributions to the IEEE IAS Chapter. This award is enlisted in the top category and the winner is titled as ‘IEEE IAS CMD Officer’. Mr. Usman has exceptionally contributed to the chapter by working hard to increase the total IEEE membership along with enhancing the technical and professional abilities of the undergraduate and graduate members.
Currently, IIT Mandi has 105 IEEE IAS members.
Continued Outstanding Performance Student Branch Chapter
The entire IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter, IIT Mandi has won this award for their extraordinary performance among other Student branches across the globe. The IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter of IIT Mandi has been actively performing since 2016 and hence the award has been entitled observing the previous records as well. The combined efforts of all the student volunteers and Branch Counsellor have been accounted for this award.
Mr. Rajesh Pindoriya, PhD Scholar and Student Chapter Chair, IIT Mandi, 2019, who also won the ‘IEEE Outstanding Student Volunteer Award in Asia Specific Region’ this year, will attend the IEEE IAS Annual Meet 2019, in Baltimore, USA, to accept the award on behalf of the whole branch.
Web Contest
Every year, IEEE also hosts a Website Contest for which award is given to three best website developer teams. The award is given on evaluating various parameters such as, ‘content of IEEE on the website, graphical design and regular updates on the website,’ The team of Ms. Jhalak Chaudhary, Mr. Utkarsh Jain and Mr. Neeraj Sharma, students of 2nd year B.Tech and Student Volunteers, IEEE IAS Chapter IIT Mandi, have won 2nd prize in this contest. Ms. Jhalak Chaudhary and Mr. Utkarsh Jain will accept this award during the IEEE IAS Annual Meet 2019.
Speaking about her recent achievement and continuous support from IIT Mandi, Ms. Jhalak Chaudhary, 2nd Year B.Tech, Computer Science Engineering, IIT Mandi, said, “Our website received 2nd position across the globe in the Web Contest Award from IEEE IAS CMD 2019 which enabled us to attend the IEEE IAS Annual Meeting 2019 to be held in Baltimore, USA. This has encouraged us a lot that our efforts are being awarded at such a great platform. IIT Mandi reimburses the IEEE membership amount for girls and provides an excellent academic environment which helps us to get aware of the happenings of the outside world also we get more confident to find and pursue our interests”.
IEEE Industrial Application Society (IAS) Student Chapter IIT Mandi is a student-run technical professional organization at the IIT Mandi, who have interests in electrical and computer sciences, engineering, and varied, but related disciplines. It’s dedicated to fostering technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.
IIT Mandi has an innovative academic curriculum that encourages B.Tech students to undertake research activities and work alongside research scholars towards professional advancement. An important aspect of the curriculum is the Design and Innovation Stream integrated into the learning process throughout the 4 years of BTech. The courses at IIT Mandi are carefully sequenced in such a manner that it provides the necessary ecosystem for the students to work alongside and develop much-needed skills that are required to innovate, think out of the box and to achieve many such accolades
