Shimla: Participating in Prime Minister Narinder Modi’s launched national initiative for a open defecation free India, public sector power generating company SJVN Ltd has marked out a budget to construct toilets in 500 schools of Himachal Pradesh.
As part of the ‘Swatchh Vidyalaya Abhiyan’ campaign, SJVN Foundation Chairman NL Sharma on 2nd October oversaw start of construction work of toilets in 30 schools around SJVN project areas of Shimla and Kullu districts.
Senior executives of SJVN disclosed that of the 500 toilets, 150 would be constructed in 2014-15 and the remaining 350 in 2015-16.
“From SJVN’s corporate social responsibility budget an Rs 5 crore amount would be spent in this financial year and Rs 12.5 crore in the next financial year,” said a senior SJVN management member.
The PSU is currently operating two hydropower plants, the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri power plant and the 412 MW Rampur power plant,. Both are located in Himachal Pradesh and are operated as run of the river projects on Satluj River.
