SJVN Scholarship 2014 details

Shimla: Profit earning and efficiently run government owned power company, SJVN Ltd (Mini Ratna Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Undertaking) as a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative has invited applications from meritorious students for its ‘2014 SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Scheme.’

To mark 25 years of founding of SJVN Ltd, in 2013, the ‘SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholar Scheme was introduced with the objective to inculcate competitive spirit amongst student’s and to nurture academic talent.

SJVN scholarships 2014 - key detaiols

170 SJVN Scholarships @ Rs 2000 p.m. for 3, 4, or 5 year bachelor’s degree duration

In all SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scheme offers 170 scholarships for pursuing studies in higher streams of education beyond the 10+2 class.

The scholarship amount handed out is Rs 2000 per month for the entire duration of the higher education degree course pursued anywhere in the country.

The higher education course taken up the meritorious student could a bachelors’ degree in Engineering, Medical, Arts/ Science/ Commerce/ Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Veterinary/ Business Administration/ Computer Applications/ LLB (5 years course) or other disciplines.

SJVN’s Area of Operation

SJVN Ltd is operating hydropower plants in Himachal Pradesh; a Wind Power Plant in Maharashtra; is developing hydropower plants in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh; and setting up a Thermal Power Plant in Bihar.

The SJVN Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship Scheme is an integral part of the company’s policy to make meaningful contribution towards sustainable socio-economic development of communities wherever SJVN has a presence.

SJVN scholarships 2014 - who is eligible

Meritorious students having secured a minimum of 60 % (Sixty Percent) marks in the 10+2 Examination in any discipline from a school under State Education Board, CBSE or ICSE boards in the 2013-14 academic year.

The scholarships on offer are restricted to students from Himachal Pradesh; Uttrakashi and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand; Papumpare district of Aurnachal Pradesh; Buxar district of Bihar; and Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, which are the places where SJVN project sites are located.

Students from the states and districts cited can apply online and by submitting attested certificate copies after downloading the form from the website.

However, a student who is a recipient of any other scholarship will not be eligible for a SJVN Scholarship.

SJVN Scholarships are allocated on a state-wise and CBSE, ICSE and State Education board quota basis

SJVN scholarships 2014 - Statewise Scholarships Available

For students of Himachal Pradesh a total of 100 scholarships are available, 30 scholarships for students from Buxar district in Bihar, 20 scholarships for students studying in Uttrakashi and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand, 10 scholarships for students from Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra and 10 scholarships for students of Papumpare district of Aurnachal Pradesh are on offer.

Having a rural bias for socio-economic development, SJVN has given preference to students passing from state education boards over those studying under CBSE and ICSE boards of education.

Of the 100 scholarships available for students from Himachal Pradesh, 60 are for those students who have secured meritorious positions 10+2 examination conducted by HP State Education Board. For students studying in CBSE education board in HP, there are 30 scholarships available and for those in ICSE board schools 10 scholarships are available. Total 100 scholarships available)

For students from Buxar district in Bihar, 18 scholarships are for meritorious students from Bihar State Education Board, 8 for students in CBSE board schools and 4 for ICSE board schools. (Total 30 scholarships available)

For students studying in Uttrakashi and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand, 10 scholarships are for students in Uttarakhand State Education Board, 6 for students under CBSE board and 4 for students in ICSE board. (Total 20 scholarships available)

For students from Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra and Papumpare district of Aurnachal Pradesh, 6 scholarships on offer are for students studying in state education board schools, 2 students studying in CBSE schools and 2 students studying in ICSE board schools.

For students for Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Aurnachal Pradesh, 50 percent of the available scholarships would be given those students who are studying in project affected area and the remaining for students studying in the district. List of schools from the project affect area are available with the project authority located in the given state.

Once you open the online application form, you will have to fill in the required details and also upload the following scan documents:

1. Coloured passport size photograph  

(Note: Image size should be between 4 KB and 100 KB[Dimension 3.5 cm wide; 4.5 cm height]. You can ask someone at a nearby cybercafe to do this for you. Its quick and easy.

2. 10+2 Class Attested Board mark sheet

Selection Procedure

Application submitted and processed by Himachal Consultancy Organization Ltd. (HIMCON) – the agency engaged by SJVN Foundation, will be screened by a selection committee before short listing of candidates to be considered for award of scholarships.

The criteria that the selection committee will adopt for short listing scholarship applications would be

  • Rank obtained by the student in terms of marks/ equivalent grade obtained in 10+2 Board Examination. In case of tie in rank, the candidate of higher age would be preferred.
  • The shortlisted candidates would be called for an interview before the selection committee to present all original academic certificates and testimonials. The candidates who do not turn up for the interview will not be considered for the scholarship.
  • Mere submission of the application does not guarantee eligibility for the scholarship.
  • SJVN will have the right to accept or reject the candidature of any candidate at any stage without assigning reasons.
  • If sufficient applications are not received in a particular board then the vacant seats would be filled by other boards with the approval of Chairman SJVN Foundation.

Where a doubt arises of any of the provisions of this scheme, it would be referred to Chairman, SJVN Foundation, whose decision shall be final and binding. The scholarship to the students will be awarded on some special occasion like SJVN Raising Day, Republic Day, Teachers’ Day or some other special day.
