Shimla: Competition in the entry level smart phone segment just got more intense as Gionee launched its Pioneer P2S model here today, targeting first time users moving up the mobile phone chain from feature phone segment.
Announcing the launch, Arvind Vohra, director of Delhi based Syntech Technology Pvt Ltd, the company behind Gionee brand in India said “in 14 months the new mobile phone company was already commanding a 3 % market share.”
Founded in January-February 2013, by the end of the financial year it had achieved a revenue turnover of over Rs 500 crores, claimed Vohra, country head Gionee Mobiles.
He added that for 2014 -15 financial year the company was targeting a sale turnover of Rs 2500 crore.
In April we recorded a sales turnover of Rs 143 crore, in May it was Rs 167 Cr and for June we would be able to cross the Rs 200 crore sales mark, he said.
Gionee recently launched what the company claimed to be the world slimmest smart phone.
The Gionee Pioneer P2S model launched today is an android OS v 4.2 based dual SIM smart phone powered by 1.3 GHz Dual Core Processor, a 5 Mega Pixel rear camera, a VGA front facing camera with a 4 GB built in memory and backed by a heavy duty 1600 mAh battery.
Available in blue, yellow and red colours the phone is priced at Rs 6499/- that is bound to cut into competitors markets.
Gionee a China based manufacturing company already has launched 16 mobile handset models, both smart phones and feature phones, in the Indian market.
