Jammu: Villagers from Nagrota and other neighbouring ones held a demonstration yesterday where national highway passing through the area was temporarily blocked to protest setting up of a slaughter house on a route that is taken by has millions of pilgrims headed for Viasnoo Deve every year.
Rakesh Wazir, one of the protestors said, “We are against setting up of a slaughter house at Khanpur Nagrota, in a thick populated area, which is in close vicinity to a temple and school.”
The villagers were demanding that the slaughter house be made at some other isolated and not at the proposed site, which was thickly populated and had a temple and a school in close prozimity.
“The slaughter is proposed to come one a route over which more than one crore pilgrims travel to Vaishnodevi ji every year,” said Wazir.
The demonstration spilled over to the nearby highway, which was blocked for some time however, the police intervened and only after the protestors were assured of government action, was the traffic was allowed to flow freely.
