Ghaziabad, June 27 (IANS) Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal Thursday accused the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) of disconnecting his flat’s power connection here on account of non-payment of a bill. The power utility denied the allegation.
State-owned UPPCL’s Superintendent Engineer Liyaquat Ali Khan said that they neither cut Kejriwal’s power connection nor restored it.
A press release issued by the AAP claimed that the UPPCL representatives came to the Girnar Tower apartment of Arvind Kejriwal and disconnected his power connection on account of non-payment of a bill since March.
Khan said: “We have out-sourced billing. From time to time, the UPPCL launched massive drives to realise outstanding payments.”
“So, it is a routine affair for the UPPCL. But in the case of Arvind Kejriwal, the connection was not snapped.”
Kejriwal reiterated his commitment to face the same fate as Delhiites and decided not to pay the power bills since March.
In March, Kejriwal launched a massive agitation against the Sheila Dikshit government in Delhi, alleging that her government helped the private power companies by increasing power tariff.
