Vietnam to host 2014 AFC women’s Asian Cup

Hanoi, May 30 (IANS) The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has officially awarded the finals of the 2014 women’s Asian Cup to Vietnam, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced here.

AFC representatives will fly to Vietnam to check the facilities and conduct necessary procedures before signing the contract with the VFF to organise the event, reports Xinhua.

In the finals of the 2014 women’s Asian Cup, eight teams will be divided into two groups, with the best two in each group advancing to the knock-out stage. Top four teams will qualify for the 2015 World Cup.

Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar, winners of their respective qualifying group, will join automatic qualifiers Australia, Japan, China and South Korea in the final tournament.

The eighth and last spot will be decided after the group A matches, June 5.
