Rome, May 4 (IANS) The 96th edition of the Giro d’ Italia (Tour of Italy) cycling race, which begins Saturday, will feature the first ever Chinese rider to take part.
Ji Cheng last year was the first Chinese to participate in the Spanish Vuelta race. He also took part in the 2012 Milan-San Remo, reports Xinhua.
The 25-year-old Chinese, who hails from Harbin, Heilongjiang province, started his riding career in 2006. He has raced for the Argos-Shimano racing team since 2007.
In 2008, he won the first stage of the South China Sea Tour.
The 96th Giro d’ Italia runs May 4-26 from Naples in southern Italy to Brescia in the north.
