Canberra, May 4 (IANS) The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has introduced new rules forcing athletes and officials to “truthfully answer” questions from the country’s doping authority.
Under the new policy announced Saturday and approved Friday by the AOC executive, athletes and officials must fully co-operate with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) even if doing so might incriminate or expose them to a penalty, reports Xinhua.
The Australian government Saturday increased funding to ASADA to $3.5 million to assist them with current doping investigations, including illegal supplement use in the Australian Football League and National Rugby League.
According to AOC president John Coates, those who fail to co-operate with and assist ASADA, can result in an athlete or official being ruled out of an Olympic team.
