Chennai, May 29 (IANS) Another DMDK legislator, R. Santhi, Wednesday turned rebel and submitted a petition to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa about her constituency.
Santhi is the sixth DMDK legislator to meet Jayalalithaa recently and to lend support to the AIADMK government.
After the meeting, Santhi told reporters that she appreciated the chief minister’s “achievements during the last two years”. Santhi represents Senthamangalam constituency.
Founded by actor-turned-politician A. Vijayakant, the DMDK has been facing dissidence.
Earlier, legislators K. Tamilazhagan, R. Sundarrajan, S. Michael Royappan, C. Arun Pandian and T. Suresh met Jayalalithaa on the pretext of submitting a memorandum relating to issues in their constituencies.
They also functioned as a separate group when the assembly was in session.
While the AIADMK has a strength of 150 (excluding the speaker) in the 235-member house, the DMDK has 29 legislators and the DMK 23.
