Crime against children major focus: NCPCR chairperson

New Delhi, May 29 (IANS) Newly-appointed chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Kushal Singh Wednesday said crime against children was an area of “major focus”.

“That is an area of major focus,” Singh told IANS when asked about the recent increase in incidents of crime against children.

The decision to appoint Singh was taken by a committee headed by Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath.

Singh has held several high-level posts in the Rajasthan government. She was earlier chief secretary of the state.

She was also the chairperson of the board of revenue, Rajasthan Pollution Control Board, and the commissioner for disabled persons, Rajasthan government.

Singh was the secretary women and child development and social welfare, principal secretary for various ministries such as social welfare and tribal area development, environment and social security of Rajasthan.

The NCPCR’s mandate is to ensure that all laws, policies, programmes, and administrative mechanisms are in consonance with the child rights perspective as enshrined in the Indian constitution.
