Two Pakistani ex-lawmakers indicted in fake degree case

Islamabad, April 1 (IANS) Two former Pakistani parliamentarians — Jamshed Dasti and Amir Yar Waran — have been indicted on charges of having fake educational degrees, a media report said.

In Muzaffargarh in Punjab province, Dasti was indicted by the district and sessions court on the request of regional election commissioner of Multan, Geo News reported.

The petitioner was of the view that the accused contested in the 2008 general elections on a fake degree and that he should be tried on the charges of forgery.

In Bahawalpur in the same province, the court of an additional judge heard the fake degree case sent by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

During the proceedings, Waran was indicted and the hearing adjourned till Tuesday.

The Supreme Court had ordered the ECP in June 2010 that degrees of all parliamentarians should be verified by the Higher Education Commission.
