New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) Olympic medallists Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt will not participate in the upcoming Asian Wrestling Championship to be held here April 18-22 due to injuries.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh informed the media Monday about the absence of the grapplers. Reserves Amit Dhankar (66kg) and Bajrang (60kg) will replace Suhil and Yogeshwar for the championship.
“Sushil and Yogeshwar, both have injuries. During the trials last month, they had said they would be fit for the completion. Unfortunately, they are not ready for competition at the moment and won’t participate,” said Brij Bhushan.
“They are consulting doctors and will hopefully return to the arena soon.”
More than 225 wrestlers from 19 countries will be competing in three disciplines — Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Female — in the five-day event at the K.D. Jadhav Wrestling Stadium.
