Thiruvananthapuram, April 15 (IANS) The liaison committee of the ruling Congress-led UDF Monday directed the Kerala government to initiate both long and short term measures to see that water is conserved for agricultural use.
UDF convenor P.P. Thankachan told reporters here: “The Cauvery Tribunal provides 30 TMC of water for Kerala and this benefits parts of Wayanad and Kannur districts, but due to some confusion over its use, the water through this accord is not being used.”
“The government has been asked to clear the doubts of the people. The Aliyar and Sholayar agreements with Tamil Nadu which give us three TMC of water but that also is not coming to us. We have asked the state government to take up this issue with the Tamil Nadu government,” he said after a meeting called to discuss the drought-like situation in the state.
