Karthikeyan extends deal for Auto GP round two

New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) India’s top racing driver Narain Karthikeyan has extended his deal with Zele Racing for the second round of Auto GP in Marrakesh, Morocco this weekend.

“I will be driving in the second round as well,” Karthikeyan told IANS.

The former HRT Formula 1 driver secured a last minute deal with Zele Racing for the Auto GP opener at Monza last month.

Karthikeyan came fifth in the first race after starting from the back of the grid while a brake failure forced him to retire from race two, leaving him at seventh spot in the standings.

The Indian has said multiple times that he is focussed on competing in single-seater series after doing two consecutive seasons in F1. In this context, the Auto GP stint will help him stay race fit.

Auto GP was called Euroseries 3000 until 2009. The cars used in the championships are powered by Zytek engines and have Lola chassis.

The series is promoted by Coloni Motorsport and will be running eight rounds, featuring two races every race weekend. Past champions include current Lotus F1 driver Romain Grosjean.
