Hopefully we can improve from next match: Warner

New Delhi, April 5 (IANS) Delhi Daredevils’ explosive opener David warner hopes that his team can get its act together in the next game against Rajasthan Royals Saturday for its first win in the Pepsi Indian Premier League (IPL) this season.

The Daredevils were easily defeated by defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening game of the sixth edition Wednesday.

“Things went horribly wrong for us in the last match. Our batsmen played some silly shots. Hopefully we can improve on this and bat, field and bowl well in the next match,” said Warner on the eve of the match against the Royals here at the Ferozeshah Kotla.

The big hitting Warner struggled against spinners during the recently concluded Test series against India and against the Knight Riders as well Warner looked short of ideas against the guile of West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, who ultimately took his wicket.

Asked if he is still vulnerable to spin, Warner said: “I don’t think so. During the Test series most of the wickets fell to spin because spinners were bowling most of the time.”

When queried if he had learnt something from another big-hitter Chris Gayle, how to build an innings on slow Indian tracks, Warner said: “I think he is a freak of nature. Every player cannot be as strong as him or tall like him. He always starts slow. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and play according to it.”

The Australian opener said in the absence of stars like Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder, other players were aware of their responsibilities.

“There are a lot of responsibilities on every player. We have some of the best players. Hopefully one of our top-four can get a big score,” said Warner.

Warner said it was very important for one among the top-four in the Daredevils line-up to bat till the 20th over.

“It is all about batting for five overs and then carrying it on till the end. One of our top-four must bat till the end. It will be very crucial for the team,” he said.
